Wisconsin Man Dead in Icy St. Croix County Crash

A driver died early Thursday when he lost control on an icy highway and crossed into oncoming traffic in St. Croix County.

The crash—just before 6:48 a.m.—marks St. Croix County’s first recorded traffic fatality of 2025, authorities say.

Deputies responded to the 1600 block of Highway 64 in Stanton Township after getting reports of a crash with injuries. When they arrived, they found a heavily damaged 2007 Mazda in the roadway.

Investigators determined that the driver, identified as 38-year-old Jeremiah D. Green, of Clear Lake, Wisc. had been driving westbound when he lost control on the icy roadway. His vehicle crossed the center line and was struck by an eastbound 2020 Ford Escape driven by 46-year-old Travis A. Johnson, of Prairie Farm, Wisc.

Emergency responders attempted life-saving measures, but Green was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials said he was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

Johnson, who was wearing a seat belt, was transported by New Richmond Ambulance to Westfields Hospital in New Richmond. His condition was not immediately available as of publication.

Authorities said road conditions were a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.

The St. Croix County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the New Richmond Police Department, New Richmond Fire Department, New Richmond EMS, Deer Park Fire Department and the St. Croix County Medical Examiner.
