Teacher, Student Killed in Madison School Shooting; Suspect Dead

A shooting at Abundant Life Christian School in Madison, Wisc. on Monday morning left a teacher and a student dead.
Authorities say a 17-year-old female student opened fire, killing a teacher and a fellow student. The shooter was found deceased at the scene from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The incident unfolded just before 11 a.m. on Dec. 16, prompting a swift response from local law enforcement. Six individuals sustained injuries, with two initially reported in critical condition. The injured were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Authorities have not yet disclosed a motive for the shooting. A 9mm handgun was recovered at the scene. The Madison Police Department is actively investigating, with the shooter's family cooperating in the inquiry.
In the wake of the tragedy, Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers expressed his condolences: "Our hearts are heavy for the victims, their families, and the entire Abundant Life Christian School community." Gov. Evers also ordered flags to be flown at half-staff across the state.
President Joe Biden addressed the nation, calling for legislative action to prevent such incidents and emphasized the need for comprehensive gun control measures.
Abundant Life Christian School, serving approximately 420 students from pre-kindergarten through high school, canceled classes for the remainder of the week. Counseling services are being offered to students, staff and families affected by the incident.
